Jessica Maertens was born in Brussels, Belgium. After many years of schooling, she decided to further her desire to study art by attending the Académie des Beaux-Arts. It is here that she studied painting and illustration. Jessica’s medium of choice is acrylic paint. She prefers painting on cardboard paper which she then reworks digitally. She does this to insure her paintings to not lose the charm of her finely detailed brush strokes. Some of Jessica’s most tender childhood memories revolve around being lulled to sleep by fairy tales and fantastically grim stories that were meant to scare children while teaching them life lessons in the process. It is through these influences that the dream of her imagination are transferred into her paintings. Through her paintings Jessica passes from reality into a wonderful world, Creepytree Hill. Colored, or dark, and sometimes with perturbing paces, her paintings are always reflections of her imagination. Often within them, one can discover ladies who hold fast to their melancholy demeanors and shyness as if it were their most valuable treasure
