My name is Colin Lee. I am an eighteen year old photographer. Photography found me in high school, where I first learned to shoot on my aunt’s manual Olympus film camera. Soon, I had a passion and a love for printmaking and then digital photography. I shoot everyday objects typically at night with colored flash gels. I like to think of my style of photography as abstract realism. I love bringing out beauty and vibrancy amidst a black emptiness of a background. Life is in color, and I want to bring that color to the front line. We are all vibrant and all objects are vibrant because we all display a beauty, even if life and everything around us appears to be dark and void of life. The point is, my work combines vibrancy with emptiness, two contrasting features that make us all human. My work is more so a therapy and a form of expression for myself, and I hope it resonates well with others.
