I am a freelance illustrator who currently based in Scotland, United Kingdom. I originally studied illustration and printmaking at Dundee Art School Duncan of Jordanstone before graduating in 2006 and then started pitching myself to numerous publications nationwide to see if anyone would bite.
Since then, I have produced work for clients such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Google and many other companies while still striving to develop my skills further by finding new ways to make marks on paper.
I kind of see myself more as a visual problem solver since people come to me with a problem that needs to be solved visually, in some ways it’s kind of like a jigsaw puzzle without the solution as you start piecing things together until you come up with a concept that fits the client’s needs.
My work falls into two styles, I have a looser, more textured style which feels more organic in it’s shapes and rough shading similar to what you get from pencils. this style evolved from me looking at the work I was making at the time and thinking that it was a bit too hard edged and graphic.
The other style is more minimalist in that it strips everything down to it’s bare minimum and then takes it from there, introducing bold colours, shapes and forms into the mix.
