Before us lies a creative process surrendered to stream of consciousness, one that could be described with a single word: provocative.
Çağlar Bıyıkoğlu imbues his paintings with memories of what he’s seen, heard and felt, utilising his work to make discoveries, face
challenges and confront them to become better acquainted with himself. Sometimes he tries to correct the mistakes he occasionally makes; and at times he stops struggling altogether, leaving him more inclined to love and embrace those mistakes. Drawing unravels childhood memories; free and sincere emotions and expressions appear on the canvas.
Born in 1979, Çağlar Bıyıkoğlu has been working in the advertisement industry as a seasoned illustrator and artistic director.
The avid artist’s award-winning illustrations have been featured in exhibitions, as well as on posters for film and theatre festivals.
Tides play an important role in the sea of emotions which capture Çağlar’s creativity. Some days it is calm and on others it is stormy and rough. His lines can be full of zeal and anger, sometimes miserable, or resentful and disillusioned, but never insensitive or apathetic. Impulses are always evident in Çağlar’s work and the transformation of feelings also alters the range of colours on his palette. “I don’t plan my work. I start by focusing on my feelings, touching the canvas with paint and lines, by smearing the canvas,” explains the artist who thinks his work is usually about “weaknesses, dilemmas and conflicts.” Çağlar feels he is trying to establish a connection with himself, as if touching something inside. “Sometimes, these interactions are all about anger and violence, while on other occasions, they are full of love and compassion”.
