SUZANNE RENDE

In 1993, I graduated from Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. My full time mural arts career began in 1996 while living in Southern California where I worked for several years. In 2000, I moved back to my home state of New Jersey where I continue to make my craft available to a host of clients in the area. Since 2016, I have resided in York, Pennsylvania commissioning murals and original paintings. I also own Naked Chick Art, a local artist collective, inside York Central Market.

Stemming from an unhappy and abusive relationship, I would escape to my happy place, the basement, to paint and try to forget the reality of my situation. Even after ending that relationship, I now always strive to “paint happy”.  My art is representative of my style and subject matter. My paintings primarily feature animals engaged and interacting in various ways. I try to paint a sweet story about the relationship between the critters in my painting or between the critter and the viewer.  I want the viewer to appreciate the beauty and mood of animals and to smile.  I feel that if looking at a whimsical bunny painting can stimulate a single person to smile or even giggle then it was worth the time to paint. I don’t think art has to be moody, hard to read into or complicated to be relevant. Everyone can benefit from a smile.

Perfect Pace
During this pandemic, I think many people have realized that their lives are too fast paced. This piece is about slowing down. Tortoise pace should be our fast lane.
Hippie Cow
This is one of my most popular pieces.
These two critters are vastly different, but share a tender quality. The highland cow is a large animal but seems just as delicate as the butterfly
Partners in Crime
This odd pair are working together for survival, although they may not be aware that they are criminals…however, if you ask the farmer….
A common thread in many of my paintings is unlikely creatures working together toward a common goal.
Wrented Knest
Working together despite differences. It takes a village….
