I normally begin my paintings from darkness. I wipe, wash, and basically do whatever I can get my hands on to bring back the light and uncover a painting.
My greatest influences are light and time. I am acutely aware light, the changing of the seasons and of how fast it goes by. Especially, each time I return home to visit Upstate NY. The starting point for each body of work is thousands of photos I have taken over the past 20 years from my hometown.
Painting helps me to slow time down and look closer. I return back to the same place year after year, I change and so does my work.
