Andrej is a DIY film photographer and freelance lighting designer/engineer, based in London. Ukrainian and Russian by way of Lithuania, he has for years been travelling around the world with touring dance companies, a camera in his bag in anticipation of the chance to foster his passion. Desiring some visual outlet, during lockdown he started his Instagram account as a place to share his amassed body of analogue work.
We see scenes and subjects from contemporary London, and from now nostalgic pre-pandemic travels. Developed in his basement, the results show a playful sense of timing, reverence for the everyday, the hidden, the overtly political and the unusually sacred, as well as enduring trace evidence of his soviet sensibility.
Andrej’s work also features in the International Photography Exhibition 2020 at the Glasgow Gallery of Photography.
