The human, flesh and paint. Having the Human Figure as a starting point and all its traditional academic stature, I am trying to transcend, or at least question, its formal representations.
By using painting and drawing as portrayal mediums/mechanisms, I’m driven to inquire about possible parallel thoughts and processes, thus elaborating on an adequate aesthetic lexicon in which to explore the dynamics of the subject matters I approach.
Emanuel De Sousa lives and works in Edinburgh, previously attending the Fine Arts Course in the Instituto Superior de Arte e Design in Madeira University, from 1995 to 1998.
He transferred his academic studies the latter year to the Faculdade de Belas Artes in Porto University, (FBAUP) in Portugal achieving Degree in Fine Arts – Painting from FBAUP.
Emanuel has shown extensively across Europe and more recently the U.S. with new major solo and group exhibitions in the works for 2020 and beyond. Works are held in both major private and public collections.
