TOBIAS LITTLE

Recently, I’ve become drawn to the weight of clouds. They have a behemoth and intense presence; almost ethereal if not for seeing them as physical. I want these photos to present their looming behavior and gracious aura in a surreal manner. They’re performative by nature, and I want my work to give them a formidable numen. What heavy clouds do is erratic to me, and it’s only for a moment that I’ve been given the chance to capture what I see before it changes again.

When I can, and when I think it’s appropriate for the composition, I try to capture flocks of birds midflight. It’s something about their movement in groups… or maybe just their general swell. It’s like they sense an impending threat. They never move quite as fast as you’d like them to, either. It’s natures subtle way of making all the little hairs stand up as I lift my arms to take the picture.

The landscapes in each image all hold a different story and issue an atmosphere unique to the moment in which I took them. Regardless of what that is per image, I like to think there’s a cohesive disposition between them and the sky above.
