By trade, I am a UI and brand designer. However, I love to go wild where there are no client briefs creating surrealist psychedelic and vibrant portraits. I feel these portraits are like style scapes built around the original subject and have a ‘mind-bendy’ style of art direction.
My process combines 2D and 3D media and software. I focus on surrealism and augmenting or deforming human forms by combining photography and 3D software. I create abstract shapes which are interweaved into the image to create a fantastical styles cape of neon colours and shape fragments.
To create these images, I create the initial 2D scene in photoshop by bringing in subtle textures and neon colours. I then feed the image into C4D as a virtual sky and create reflective elements to create the metly effect and weave it into the original image. I do this in stages so that each new reflective element is reflecting a previous state of the artwork. Often the 3D elements are showing the history of the piece as it gets developed.
My aim is to create dreamlike compositions with super vibrant colours. I am highly inspired by the vaporwave and synth-wave aesthetic and science-fiction.
With regards to the concept and what they represent, I think of them as people lost in their minds, fantasy and reality intertwining into beautiful chaos.
