My favourite medium is charcoal, one that I started out hating because how inconsistent it felt to me, sometimes it felt as if I would create a line and it would be on the paper permanently, sometimes it would disappear with just a brush of my hand. But that’s what made me fall in love with charcoal, how versatile it is. My works are mainly portraits because so many identities can be made out of what seems to be the same elements, eyes, a nose, lips and so on… But putting them in the correct placement, size, or creating depth on a face makes all the difference in who that person is. My works are not to mimic realism, but how an artist can change a flat piece of paper into something amazing.
