JANE BARWOOD

A recurrent theme in Jane’s artwork is the ephemeral nature of fragile physical bodies and their material ties to the world within an eternal universe. Shadow people, ghosts, and skeletons of buildings are depicted within the ancient landscape. The settings are based on reality but are not realistic. Colour, texture and form evoke atmosphere and emotion rather than depicting photographic realism. The paintings explore ideas of loneliness and connection, alienation and belonging, isolation and reaching out.

Jane regularly exhibits, has won several awards and is proud to have gained a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art Painting. She has completed commissioned projects, has paintings in public and private art collections and occasionally teaches workshops, classes and gives lectures.
