RUBÉN GRANERO

As an architecture illustrator my goal is to represent the shapes, proportions and details of buildings in the most reliable way possible. There shouldn’t be much difference between a photo and a drawing, other than by drawing I get to choose which parts of the scene make it onto the paper and can represent views from angles that might not be possible to capture with a camera.

But drawing buildings with precision can get monotonous at times, and to break the routine I like to create architecture pieces in which I add fantasy elements. Because cities can become canvases for our imagination, mixing the straight line of buildings with shapes far more whimsical.

My preferred medium is black ink, as it removes other considerations and lets me focus solely on the small details of the scene, but every so often I feel that a drawing calls for colour, and then I turn to watercolour or coloured pencils.
