JAMES GRIMWOOD

I began this series of drawings with the simple aim of improving my portraits, so tried to limit my colours as much as possible to reduce the number of variables. This forced me to solve problems in unusual ways, and I liked the strangeness of the resulting images. I quickly realised I didn’t have to use traditional skin tones to create a convincing face.

I love the way complementary colours can sing together if you get them just right, but will jar horribly if you’re not careful. It’s a fun challenge.

All the models so far have been from the wonderful Cane-yo public reference.
