My name is Sophie, and I’m a figurative surrealist painter based in Leeds, currently studying at Leeds Arts University. My emotional, thought-provoking paintings reflect the psychological elements of existing. Confrontational acrylic and oil-based paintings act as a translator from painting to viewer in order to visually depict intense feelings, anxieties and states of mind that align with the human experience. My visually surrealist style contains human-like figures experiencing varying emotions -including discomfort, devastation, and fascination. Heavily influenced by German Expressionism, I paint human-esque figures using bold, purposeful lines and exaggerated anatomy. Paintings that experience sorrow, heartache, anger and frustration is intrinsic to humanity –the partial unfamiliarity created in my paintings allow a human relatability to be experienced at arm’s length.
