I’m Adrià Llarch, I’m from Barcelona and I started painting self-taught at a very young age.
Later I studied Fine Arts in Barcelona and when I finished I started to paint my personal work. I have been a finalist in painting contests such as Figurativas, the BMW prize, the ARC Renewal Center and I obtained an honorable mention in a chair with Antonio Lopez. I have exhibited at La Sala Parés in Barcelona, at the MEAM, and in other European galleries. I have also worked more sporadically on some advertising project with Lufthansa brands. I’m currently teaching at the Barcelona Academy of Art.
In my work I am interested in the portrait and the figure, because it is what connects the most with my reality. I paint my family, my loved ones, the models I meet at the academy where I work… and from them I try to find what connects to me, to paint them them most sincere way I can.
My creative process goes from the very basic or even intuitive initial idea until I develop it in my head and then on paper. It’s very important to me to observe the model before starting a work. When it is from nature, I spend a lot of time choosing the specific point of view from which I will do the painting. Then I start with the drawing in the sketchbook and in the following sessions, I think about it and try rich color paletes. I make adjustments in the drawing and in the composition during all the process until I reach the final version.
The works in the sketchbook are mainly based on the study and practice of the human figure, to represent it from a personal and aesthetic point of view. The purpose is to exercise creativity from life drawing and painting, and create a kind of personal diary with the works that I fill in the sketchbook.
