EMMA DE POLNAY

Emma studied art and design at Wimbledon Art School and Kingston University, going on to pursue a career as a set designer for film and television.

Her mixed-media paintings and drawings are inspired by the natural and mythical worlds, and by her passion for dynamic movement and mark-making.

Emma’s original works often include a base layer of collage from recycled sketches, waste paper, and natural and man-made elements related to her subject matter. Her use of metallic mediums to finish both original paintings and giclee prints, has become her signature. She sees the metallics as the ‘sparks of ignition’ that bring her works to life.

Emma has exhibited widely across the UK, and as part of a celebration of French and English coastal artists in Ste Marguerite sur Mer.

“I want my work to feel both dynamic and otherworldly, I want it to energise and enchant.

Whether I’m trying to express the gentle power of angelic wings, a windswept walk, or enraptured human movement, my aim is to capture my sensory response – the traces that remain when I close my eyes. Sometimes this is totally abstract, sometimes more representational.”
