IRYNA MAKSYMOVA

Hello, my name is Iryna Maksymova, and I am an artist from Ukraine. I specialize in contemporary figurative art, a passion that has been with me since my earliest memories.
In my artistic practice, I employ various elements such as colors, expansive formats, compositions, and themes to convey deeply personal meanings. My primary mediums are acrylic and textile. Acrylic paintings are my foundation, which I complement with the use of pencils, oil pastels, markers, and paint sprays. Presently, my artistic journey has led me to discover a profound passion for working with textiles. Using recycled clothing as my canvas allows me to repurpose materials that would otherwise be discarded and wasted. Moreover, the tactile quality of the fabric invites viewers to engage with my pieces, encouraging them to touch and explore the varied textures and patterns within.
Regardless of the medium I employ, I am committed to incorporating elements of Ukraine and its rich cultural heritage into my art. For instance, I may integrate colors or patterns inspired by Ukrainian embroidery and traditional clothing, incorporating geometric designs, animals, and plant forms as well as symbols and motifs drawn from Ukrainian folklore and mythology, such as powerful deities, magical creatures, and valiant heroes. Additionally, themes of feminism and the animal world frequently emerge in my art. Within the context of womanhood, I explore topics surrounding the female body, women in society, and female empowerment. Through my artwork, I aim to amplify their visibility, influence, and presence in the lives of observers. Animals, portrayed with joyous energy, often inhabit my creations, symbolizing their freedom to leap, gaze, and dance. My deep affection for animals motivates me to give voice to their needs and ensure their rights are recognized.
Lastly, I am immensely grateful to my audience for affording me various opportunities to showcase my art and promote the rich cultural legacy of my country. It is through their support that I can introduce my art and shed light on the cultural heritage that Ukraine holds so dear.
