SUE WILLIAMS A’COURT

Sue Williams A’Court’s practice explores the notion of the visual sublime working within painting, collage and drawing. She employs appropriation from historical landscape painting as a signifier of desire and invites an encounter with landscape not as a place but as a proposition.

The form, composition and materiality of the art object is constructed to summon a state of mind rather than a specific location. Central to the work is the exploration of desire for solace in “numinous” experience. The artwork is an embodiment of a daily act of devotion or application and intended to draw in the viewer in quiet meditation of an inaccessible but familiar experience.
