MILA USECHE

All of my paintings are self-referential. They are a recollection of my identities, my past-self, my present-self and my hopeful-future-self, all coming to meet and talk to each other to share their fears and anxieties, but also their hopes and wishes.

Gathering these identities often starts with chaos. There’s always a struggle as they all pull from different corners, but I’ve accepted that as an essential part of my process and try to embrace it, trying really hard not to be so controlling, but just enough to moderate a dialogue and find a happy place.

The end result becomes a sort of self portrait, but also a personal testament about having the courage to find joy and peace during increasingly uncertain times.
