I am Geometsic, a fine artist and animator working from Nottinghamshire, UK. I trained at De Montfort University in Leicester, in BA Hons Fine Art, creating paintings and animation/sound installations. Since leaving university, I’ve mainly worked as a freelance graphic designer for companies up to PLC level, with clients worldwide. Geometsic is an outlet to pursue my interests in fine art and animation.
My artwork is very graphical and bold in nature. Since an early age I’ve had a fascination with geometrical forms. There is a comfort in the certainty of these precise shapes I find appealing. In my degree work I explored the idea of individual cubes interacting in animations, and I produced sounds to synchronise with these interactions. Creating drum patterns to match what is seen on screen. The cubes existed in a world brought to life by the sound and animation.
This developed into the work I make today. Simple cubes have evolved into more complex isometric environments. Slopes, planes, arches, pillars, structures. A puzzle world you could navigate by walking and climbing.
My colour palettes can vary, this is the area where I can be freer, compared to the rigid and precise painting process. In general, I like vivid colours, but I like to be playful and try new combinations. My paintings are painstakingly made on stretched canvas in acrylic paint, I pride myself on the precision of these works as I cannot bear them not to be “perfect”.
