Caroline Ji is an oil painter currently living and working in Toronto, Canada. Her current body of work centers around themes of emotional intimacy, self-perception, and how human beings relate to each other. Painting is, for her, an attempt to reconcile the analytical aspects of image making with the emotional impact of looking at and feeling something. She uses a strong sense of colour and light to elicit emotions out of her viewers. The narrative of the work is told less through the literal placement or poses of her subjects and more through the ambience that suggests a certain “je ne sais quoi.”Â
