Roos van der Vliet (b. 1985) is a Dutch artist based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Since earning her BFA in 2009, she has exhibited her work across Europe, the USA, the UK, and Australia. In her most recent portraits, she explores a timeless atmosphere where past, present, and future converge, searching for a deeper connection between our ancestors, ourselves, and future generations.
Known for her meticulous attention to detail, particularly in the hair, Roos strives to capture reality so closely that it feels almost tangible. Eyes gaze back, and hair appears touchable. This pursuit of realism stems from a feeling of alienation she experiences when observing the world. By examining life’s enigmatic layers and reproducing its intricate details, she seeks a sense of control. In creating something real, she affirms her own existence.
