MAESTRO’s work explores the various ways in which iconic images, figures, and historical
events are accessed and processed through contemporary media and technology. In particular, he is drawn to moments when digital technology frustrates or otherwise inhibits the insatiable
appetite of consumer culture, as in his “LOADING” series—which depicts the iconic subject as
a pixelated frame that will never load and, therefore, can never be fully absorbed by the viewer.
A recent immigrant to the United States, MAESTRO is fascinated by the contagious nature of
American popular culture and the way in which the post-internet experience evokes a nostalgic
longing for the past. Deliberate and sculptural, grounded in the precise yet textured cohesion of
black pen on white paper, MAESTRO’s technique intentionally resists the mass-reproducibility
of the Pop Art movement. By examining his iconic subjects through a hyperrealistic, colorless
lens, MAESTRO draws inspiration from both the simple elegance of European design and the
dimensional complexity of the architectural process, inviting the viewer’s close scrutiny while
playing with perspective.
