MARK JACKSON

I’m an abstract figurative artist based in London whose work explores the themes of bravery, vulnerability, transition and performance – often through a queer lens. I tend to start with chaos on a canvas. Wonderful, messy and unpredictable. From there, I bring the piece into focus, often using figures, denser layers of paint and embracing what could be considered mistakes. In fact, I find that deviations from my intended line or composition produce my most organic and exciting work. Masculinity, and its potency in the modern world, interests me. My paintings aim to remove any toxicity from their subjects and return them to a state of curious joy and gentle boyhood, hopefully taking the viewer with them.
