LAUREN ZAKNOUN

Lauren Zaknoun is a multi-disciplinary artist from southeastern Massachusetts. An illustrator and photographer, her primary focus is surrealism. “Playing god” is an integral facet of Lauren’s work, challenging the viewer’s conception of what is real and what is not. Positing the artist as god, every work becomes a shocking creation. A sense of humor and dark whimsy are trademarks of her work. Anxiety, absence, power, & escapism are recurring concepts.

To Lauren, “originality is dead” is a challenge, not a fact. She is constantly trying to push her work forward, creating art with themes or elements that are unique, provoking, and even shocking in a world that values content over substance.

In 2017, Lauren completed one hundred nights, a photo project spanning June – September. For one hundred consecutive days, she conceptualized, shot, & edited a brand new photo. The project can be seen in its entirety here.

Lauren’s first large scale photo project was PHOBIA. Completed in October 2015, PHOBIA is a 13 photo collection outlining the dark realities lurking behind our “irrational” fears. The photos were created & shared every day for 13 days leading up to Halloween. PHOBIA can be seen in its entirety here.

Lauren Zaknoun’s art has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally. Based in Cape Cod, she is available for worldwide travel.
