Lisa Sanders lives and works in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
In her oil paintings Lisa strives to create visual spaces that invite viewers to look, linger and ponder. She relies on an intuitive method of layering marks and colour while hinting at imagery that harkens back to memories wrought with regret or imbued with nostalgia and hope.
She embeds these narratives into her work using light intended to remind us about how important it is to stay present. She wants her work to be contemplative yet playful where along with darkness and mystery there is joy and magic that, if allowed, will percolate to the surface.
Lisa studied Studio Arts at Guelph University in Ontario, Canada and pursued part-time studies at schools such as OCAD University and SVA in New York. She is also an educator who has worked with children, teenagers and adults in a variety of settings.
Lisa had two recent solo exhibitions at United Contemporary Gallery in Toronto.
She lives with her partner, two teenage children and their dog in The Junction, an eclectic west end neighbourhood of Toronto.
Her paintings and drawings reside in many private collections both within Canada and the U.S.
