I had the chance to ask photographer Giada Liaso some questions:
1. Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m Giada Laiso, i’m 21 years old and i study “Photography and New technologies of Art” in academy in Milan.
2. What is the appeal of photography?
I can represent what i have in my mind trough photography and digital manipulation, i can express my soul.
3. What inspires you and your imagery?
I’m inspired by anonymous and isolated places, by people, by my dreams.
4. Have you/would you ever produce a book of your images for people to buy?
I’d love to produce a book of my images, would be my inner world offered to people who are interested in it.
5. Who is your favourite photographer and why?
I have some favourite photographers like Tom Chambers, Eugenio Recuenco, Gregory Crewdson..i’m fascinated by their
amazing works.
6. If you could take an image of anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Kaya Scodelario, she would be perfect in a dreamy picture.
7. Do you think that fine art and conceptual photography are seen as serious forms of art compared to commercial and fashion photography?
I think that fashion photography it’s more commercial than fine art photography, the last one is more particular
because there are so much forms of expression and ways to communicate them.
8. What kind of music do you like and does this influence your work in any way?
I like every kind of music but when i plan and edit my pictures i work better listening Robin Guthrie, Max
Richter’s compositions and many others artists.
9. On average, how long do you spend editing your images?
About two hours for each pictures.
10. Do you think you have your own style?
I think i try to express my inner world, that will never be like someone other. Not style but interiority.
11. How important do you think narrative is within photography?
Very much, i think that a good picture must communicate something to people that observe it.
12. How do you think of concepts for your imagery? Are there any certain photographers/ artists that you take
inspiration from?
My concepts are taken by my imagination, i try to represent it through my shots. I’m inspired by my favourites
photographers and by some painters like Sandorfi and more others.
13. Do you think that there is a difference between being inspired by an image and taking inspiration from an image?
Yes of course, i prefer the first one (and it happens to me) because stimulates more our personal immagination.
14. What is your favourite image you have taken and why? (please include a small jpeg of the image/link to the image)
“The Missing World” because it represents at 360° my dreams dimention.

15. What is the best and worst thing about being a photographer?
The best thing is that you can express yourself trough images, the worst thing is not communicate with them.
16. Do you think that self portraits are a “default” route into photography?
No they are not, but i think that self portraits are usefull to learn new things about what we want to communicate.
17. Do you know of any photographers that you would recommend to be featured on this blog?
Mmmh i don’t know, there are so much talented emerging photographers 🙂
18. Is there a particular message you are trying to say through your photography?
I hope to make the imagination run.
19. If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?
I’d like to work in a museum or in a gallery.
20. Do you have any advice for aspiring photographers?
Be yourself and never give up.
