‘Night and Dusk as We Remember Them’ is a long form photography project exploring the passage of time through nightscapes and the people that occupy them.
I began to conceive of this project in the early Summer of 2021, largely as an outgrowth of my work documenting the suburban decay around Portland, Oregon (US). Initially I had intended it to be much in the same vein: an examination of the effects of time on the physical and psychological infrastructure of Portland. I’ve begun to realize however, that my personal history (born and raised and then some) is entirely inseparable from my artistic interpretation of this city. Thus in a way, its started to take on the character of my own trauma, and my hope is that by allowing this influence, and opening myself up to a vastly more intense experience, the work rings all the more true.
