Growing up, it was common to think of the suburbs as a place from which to escape. Lacking the glamor of the big city, and the coziness of small town living, I pined for something different. Having moved to Las Vegas, Nevada as a young adult, I learned that the sunshine and warmth of the place touches everything. Admittedly, however, the extent of its reach took me a while to see.
Exploring the suburbs of Sin City, along with other towns throughout the western U.S., I found that maybe suburban life gets a bad rap. With the sun washing over everything, it’s hard not to see things in a new light. I hope these photos prompt you to ponder your own preconceptions about a typically overlooked setting.
