My work is a direct response to my surroundings, visual memories of places I have lived, travelled to or explored. Colour, shape and form evoke responses in both the artist and the spectator – often these responses are indefinable. Through a layering of colour and a richness of surface I invite the viewer to wander and explore, creating their own personal journey.
My current series of paintings entitled ‘Wild Places’ evolve from charcoal sketches, photos and written notes on my travels to the Outer Hebrides earlier this year. These records have become a catalyst for my paintings which, rather than being a visual reproduction of a place, represent a memory of the location or my personal response to being there.
I love the light, atmosphere and calm feel of this remote location, it couldn’t be more different from where I live in London.
Addtionally, I have an upcoming solo show at Sprout Arts, London in 31 January – 12 Feb 2023
