My work is based on a joy of deep connection in the moment with subjects in the natural world.
Exploring our landscape, I forget myself, becoming absorbed in the life I meet. Experiencing an all-encompassing feeling of delight.
Returning home, I relive that sense of connection in the field, reabsorbed.
I mix, splash, slide and pull inks onto paper, to recreate the sensation of those moments. Enhancing my experience of my natural subject’s character, behaviours, movements, shapes and colours. The inks may pull at the paper as they dry, creating radiating light and shadow, increasing the feeling of energy and life.
By sharing my paintings, I aim to create a sense of artist, viewer and subject meeting and connecting within the natural world.
