My name is Judit Ruiz Torrado, although my creative name is Judit Sin Hache (which in spanish means: Judit without h). I’m a creative/ fashion designer/ mixed-media Collage artist, originally from Spain and currently based and living in Edinburgh.
I graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 2021 studying Fashion Design, and prior to my degree, I studied Textiles at Edinburgh Telford’s College.
Since I graduated, I’ve been mainly focused on experimenting with collage since it has always been present in my work throughout my creative journey, and it’s something that has always come natural to me. Collage is part of my childhood memories. When I was a kid I was always working on some crafty project either on my own or with my dad. I remember he used to have a box full of paper scraps and cut-outs that he would eventually use to make some collage. And I think that’s had an impact on who I am today.
My main inspirations come from my own family history, but also from the intricacy of surrealist art. Every element used within my work is very symbolic and represents a feeling, a thought, a part of who I am. Everything is put together for a reason. For me, collage is an open door to use every media and technique that’s available, it’s freedom. I don’t only cut and paste, I also like to add some stitching details, paint, fabric scraps. I connect with myself when I do my collage art, it brings me joy, peace of mind. I feel complete when I put on paper what’s on my mind.
