I’ve described my art as “my brain on canvas” as it comes from things I’m experiencing and feeling. I start with an initial sketch of what’s in my mind before I paint it. I use acrylic paints and often mix my own to get the exact shade I want. The colour scheme was born during a time when I was drawing a lot with my niece and she decided we could only use neon highlighter pens in purple, green, yellow, pink and blue. I liked the combination a lot and the freedom it gave me to create my own little worlds in colours not necessarily reflective of reality and started using it in my work from then on. The same anonymous character makes an appearance throughout my work. The reason she doesn’t have any facial features is because I want her to represent anyone that can relate to her and through that hopefully help the viewer create their own story and meaning behind the artwork. I love it when people connect to my art and that it can mean different things to different people.
