GITTE VALENTINER-BRANTH

I use painting as a medium and I’m interested in space and architecture.

My works balance on the edge of figuration and abstraction, between realism and fiction.
Spaces and surfaces are displaced and dissolved in architectural structures and in multiple perspectives.

I work with acrylic on canvas and I´m inspired by shape, lines and the sharp edges as well as the perspectives of the magnificent, architect-designed villas typically in the United States or elsewhere in the world.
They seem hugely fascinating and symbolize a kind of freedom to me.

I often start my works on a very airy surface of wild strokes with the wide brush, after which I explore the spatial structures, insert loose elements with my colorful palette, and thus create dynamic works full of energy and contrast.

And sometimes the architectural lines stand with a clean surface that makes a strong expression.

I try to convey an identity, where I use my own story as an entrance.
A recurring feature in all my works is the absence of man. The viewer is the human being in my paintings.
