Born in South London in the early 1970’s Alexis Butterfield is a designer and mixed-media landscape artist based in the city of Liverpool. After concentrating on architectural practice for 25 years, Alexis returned in early 2024 as a prolific artist.
His subject matter is romantic, and draws influences from mid-century neo-romanticism, focussing on forgotten or vulnerable places, architecture and traces of history that surround him. Works are on paper and are distinctive, combining within the single image layers of mixed media drawing techniques and often incorporating a collage base. These techniques allow him to work fast, while the discipline of 25 years in architecture maintains precision and detail.
Alexis posts new work 2-3 times a week on Instagram, Bluesky and Threads. Titles for the pieces are typically inspired from music and lyrics, and each piece is subtitled with the What Three Words location for the view. Original pieces can be purchased via the Dot.Art Gallery in Liverpool, with more work available as prints and originals from his website takealineforawalk.com
