When taking a photograph my primary focus is on colour, shape and surrounding. I also like to achieve a certain calmness and stillness to my photos, finding that I’m never truly in a rush to capture something. This is perhaps because my subjects are usually quite tranquil. I’m able to sit with them in the viewfinder for a bit before hitting the shutter.
These photos, as part of my series “An Empty World”, were taken the day before we went into phase 3 lockdown in Australia due to covid-19. They have an apocalyptic or a forgotten societal feel to them with the aim to highlight just how real, scary and life adjusting this pandemic is to everyone.
Your title, ‘Empty World’ is very fitting for this series. They have a strong emotional impact because of these troubled times.
