JON BOLLES

I live work in Beverly, Massachusetts. My paintings explore places that I see everyday. Painting is a constant experiment for me, like putting puzzles together. I’m trying to understand how things fit. Color is another kind of puzzle. You try one color and find that it needs to be a different color, and this is a lot of what painting is (for me.) It’s always trial and error. I think about abstraction as much as I do realism, and my paintings reveal that. Forms come together to create ‘things you can see’ as often as they unravel and turn back into pure shapes of paint. I can’t deny painting’s fundamentally abstract nature.
