RIONA BUTHELLO

I love to create seamless blends contrasted with striking and textured highlights. My work tends to make people stop and wonder whether they’re looking at a photograph or a painting until they see the slight textures in my work.

I am most well known for my series of road paintings which are often described as soft and mysterious. My overall aim is to evoke a feeling of nostalgia, I like to make the viewer feel as if I have painted their memories.

I’m On My Way

The traffic is heavy and the weather is bad, but whilst you’re sitting there waiting for it to pass, you can’t help but think how beautiful everyday life can look.

The Night We Met

The haunting eerie painting and its title was inspired by Lord Huron. It represents the pain and confusion of a long heartbreak. The road ahead is unclear to you, the driver cant’ help but wish you’d never had to go down this road, but it’s too late to turn around.

Drive Slow

A defined foggy landscape with a striking calm red contrast. The mood in this painting is clam yet lonely.

Twilight

A dark and eerie landscape, strongly contrasted by the orange headlights. This painting has a strong ominous tone.
